1,058 Mars One applicants make first cut

I am one of the 297 people selected from the United States, half of which are women and about 75 in my age group. I am excited to be part of this! Even in a thousand years, everyone will remember the first trip to Mars.

Here are a few snippets from CBS. I recommend you read the whole story.

The group’s co-founder Bas Lansdorp said in a statement it was challenging to separate “those who we feel are physically and mentally adept to become human ambassadors on Mars from those who are obviously taking the mission much less seriously,” adding that some even appeared nude their application videos.

“We fully anticipate our remaining candidates to become celebrities in their towns, cities, and in many cases, countries,” Lansdorp. “It’s about to get very interesting.”
